| For many years, in politics and outside politics, many Christians have been two issue people, abortion and gays…what they’re against…rather than fighting for WHAT THEY ARE FOR…AND TRYING TO CHANGE SOCIETY WHILE LIVING OUT THEIR FAITH.As a radio guy and someone who runs a non-profit for children and youth, I’ve stayed out of the political landscape for decades except to vote.
But finally, to quote someone else, ‘enough is enough.’ In this election, sure John McCain and Sarah Palin are against abortion (aren’t most people, even pro-choice people)and against gay marriage and they are again fighting the ‘culture wars’ to the delight of social conservatives.. But is Sarah, the new 2-week old rock star national politician, living her faith and following Jesus? 1. Any parent, female or male, who has a 17 year old pregnant, unmarried daughter and a new-born baby with special needs (and a rumored son with a drug problem) should not be spending most of her energy running a national campaign (while also being a governor) but instead tending to her family. 2. Parading those children with deep emotional needs in front of the media is NOT what a truly loving follower of God would do. 3. Since Sarah says her faith is so deep, for political expediency, howcould she be repeating and repeating half-truths, which by definition are therefore LIES…half truths about earmarks she did go after, a plane that didn’t sell on Ebay, the truth about using her political clout with Trooper Gate and myriad other half-truths. And in her initial introductions to the public, avoiding direct media contact for 2 weeks, where or where has she done as Jesus directs, to talk about ‘caring for the least of these.’? I am not judging her faith but observing it. Actions do speak louder than words..and Faith without works is dead’ as James tells us. Truth is, I am not thrilled by ANYBODY this year, but there are so many social ills in our country crying for healing and repair and so many neglected for 8 years and even longer, I would rather take a chance on the most compassionate in this election and that is NOT John McCain who talks almost not at all about his faith and Sarah, who talks the talk but hardly practices ’surrender,’ in termsof either compassion or taking care of the priority of her family. As for Ron Paul and once but no more my hero, Ralph Nader, do they ever talk about God at all? Joe Biden is a pretty typical Catholic, no mystery there…and Barack Obama, while perhaps being at the wrong church too long, has been pretty pen about his faith for nearly 2 years of campaigning. As for ‘mavericks,’ the real mavericks put God FIRST however imperfect as we all are.. Nor do they ’speculate’ like Sarah that a war is ‘God’s plan’ like radical muslims do. Obama is truly ‘a chance’ that requires trusting in the Almighty… but John McCain is ‘no chance’ Obama is an unusual candidate, perhaps but let’s trust the one who talks the most and has done the most about ‘the least of these’ for as Jesus told us, ‘what you do for the least of these, you do for me.’ So really, WHO is going to ‘love on people’ the most?
